Global Cultures Legacy Project

Databases
Try these databases in this order. The first two contain information pertinent to every country being researched! Be sure to choose MLA citation types!

World Geography (ABC-CLIO)
  • Click on the "Countries" tab in the upper left corner of the screen.
  • In the "Select A Country" dropdown menu, find your country alphabetically.
  • Click the "Geography" dropdown
  • Explore the "Natural Resources and Agriculture" and "Environment" segments.
  • Each segment counts as a separate source! Be sure to get the citation by clicking on "Cite this Document" in the upper right hand of the article's page.
Culture Grams
  • In Culture Grams choose the "World Edition"
  • In the upper right corner select your country in the drop down menu that says "Select A Region or Country."
  • Once in the article for your assigned country, look in the "Economy" segment. Other potential sections to explore are the "History" segment and/or the "Health" segment, depending on your country. Feel free to look around other sections. You'd be surprised how intertwined environmental issues are with other elements of the country.
  • All of the aforementioned sections about the countries in this database are technically part of one report. You can get a  citation by scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking "Generate Citation." All of those sections count as a single source. HOWEVER, if you find information you can use for your project in an interview, that will count as a separate source and has a separate citation.
Salem Press History
Websites
Try searching your country first, then specific issues you have identified about your country.  The first two links are a great place to start if you are unsure of which issue(s) you would like to learn about.
  • United Nations Environment Programme - Search for the name of your country in the upper right corner of the page or mouse over the UNDP around the world dropdown menu in the upper left to see if your country is included. Depending on your country, some articles will address environmental issues.
  • United Nations Development Programme
  • Greenpeace International
  • World Watch
  • Global Forest Watch
  • International Union for Conservation of Nature
  • World Wildlife Fund
  • World Resources Institute
  • World Health Organization (WHO) Environmental Health

Print Materials
Check the library catalog for print materials and ebooks (which count like a print resource)! In the center of the page find the area labeled "Resource Lists." Then click the tab that says "Public Lists." Look for a the list of resources applicable to the countries you are researching, which is entitled "Global Culture Legacy Project (GCLP)."

If a book listed in the catalog says "Ask," that means it is at West. We can usually have it for you within a day. Just let me know by dropping me an email to me at jsutton@lphs.org!
