Background Information
You must first understand what an offering is and what you should include so that it will relate to your chosen person. You can do that from these sources: Day of the Dead (Faces Magazine) Day of the Dead Overview (Gale Student Resources in Context) Mexican Sugar Skull Ofrenda Checklist How to Prepare a Proper Altar (The Manual Magazine) Check out the books in the library catalog. The Dia de los Muertos books are in a resource list in the center. Click on the "Public LIsts" tab and search for the list. We also have lots of biographies. Feel free to search your chosen person in the catalog as well. Creating Your Ofrenda Now that you know what you are creating, research your chosen person. It may be a deceased person you knew in your life, or a famous person you never met, but you must be able to explain the person and why you have chosen the objects for your ofrenda. Obviously, if it is a person in your life, you would use what you know and/or interview the person's family/friends. If the person you choose is famous, check out pages about them, specifically, or these sources: Biography in Context Database Bio.com Citations Be sure to cite text as well as images!
