The White Van

11/1/2017

Alone in the house, I looked out the window and saw an eerie light from the corner of my eye. It was the middle of the night, and I just wanted to sleep without being interrupted. I looked again but this time more carefully, but the light was gone. I thought it must have been a normal car passing by, and went back to sleep. Right when I got back in bed, I saw the light once again. This time, I looked outside, and saw a white van in the driveway of my house. Right when I looked at the white van, the driver started the engine, hit the gas, and was off. The rest of the night, the van never made another appearance. A week passed, and everything was fairly normal at school. However, friday night of that week, there was a breaking news story that said five children have been missing from their homes, and their parents had no idea where they are. One of the parents was interviewed, “When I woke up this morning to go wake up Charlie, I realized that he wasn’t in his bed. At first I thought he must have woken up early to eat some breakfast, but I realized he wasn’t in the kitchen either. I searched the whole house, but couldn’t find Charlie. I then frantically called the police, and they came to my house right away. They searched my whole house, but didn’t find any clues of Charlie.” In the news, it said that the five children who were missing resided in the southwest area of town, which is where I lived. This made my stomach wrench. What was the white van doing in my driveway, and could the eerie light have something to do with the van? Two days passed, and no one heard anything about the missing children. At school, everyone was talking about the possible kidnapping. Later that day, I texted my friend James, and asked him if he had any additional information regarding the kidnapping, but I never heard back from him. Hours passed, and I started to get worried. I waited a day, but then called his mom. His mom said that she hasn’t heard from him, and that she called the police, and they are currently investigating the situation. That night, when I went to bed, I heard the sound of a van roaming on the street. It passed my house a couple of times, but then didn’t show up again until midnight. At midnight, I was awoken by a clamorous noise. I peered out my window, and the same white van that I have been seeing nights before had crashed into my garage. Seconds later, I heard a multitude of piercing gunshots, all of which were all inside my house. A choking stench came from the hallway. I sprinted to my closet in hopes that I would be safe. Then, the door of my closet was smashed open.
