The Man in My Closet

11/1/2017

Alone in the house, I looked out the window. The trees swayed in the breeze as ominous dark clouds passed overhead. “This looks like something out of a horror movie,” I thought to myself. I went downstairs where I turned on the TV to try and pass the time. I always hated being home alone, the quietness of the house gave me the chills. I was always paranoid that someone else was watching me. I quickly dismissed those thoughts and turned on my favorite movie. Later, I heard something suspicious. There was a loud “BANG!” that shook the house. I jumped out of my seat, and looked around. I decided I was just hearing things, but a couple minutes later I heard it again. “BANG!” This time I almost jumped out of my skin. I got up and searched the house. I looked out the window and saw a man. There, in the front yard, was a tall man. He was wearing a long black coat with a hat pulled down over his face. He seemed to be looking right at me, like he knew I was watching him. Then, I heard it again. “BANG!” I turned around and looked back at the man but he was gone. I got to my phone and called my parents. But there was no answer. I creeped up the stairs when I saw a window open in the bedroom. “Oh my god.” My instincts told me that the man must be in the house. I bolted into my bedroom and locked the door. Then I sat down and desperately hoped that it was all just an odd coincidence. But then I heard it, something was shuffling around in the closet. By now I was already terrified, but this was even worse. I slowly got up and then “BANG!” By now I was convinced this was a life or death situation. I was getting ready to call 9-1-1 when the closet door creaked open. My heart sank. I slowly crept to the closet and looked in. There was a shadowy figure standing in the closet, motionless. I looked up and saw a pair of gleamy eyes staring at me through the darkness. I gasped. He reached for me but missed. I ran for my life unlocking the door and running down the stairs. But when I looked back he was gone. As I reached the end of the stairs I bumped into something. I looked in horror as I recognized the figure of the tall man who I had seen in the front yard. He shoved me and darted upstairs where he jumped out of the window and I was left in shock but was also very relieved. That night I found myself safe in my bed about to go to sleep, tired from an exhausting day. But then, in the midst of the darkness, I once again heard the eerie screech of the closet door creaking open.
