Lunatic

11/1/2017

Alone in the house, I look out the window, shivering. Teeth gnawing, in fear of the perplexing shadows outside. My brain is screaming at me to run away, but to where do I run when everything beyond is after me? My eyes are glued to the crack in the fogged window. The trees are all lifeless, and I’m shuddering because of the bitter cold. An eerie silence fills the night, no one else in sight. It seems as though everyone has vanished, with only the noise of the wind left behind. The sky begins to turn into a crimson color, as if the heavens were bleeding. The moon began to dim, as if something was covering it. The lights flickering, the windows shattering, my bones rattling within. I curl up into a ball, begging for this hell to be over. All of the sudden it gets quiet. I stop shaking staying still for some time. The door slowly creaks open, leading into a dimly lit hallway. I get up slowly, cautious of every move. My legs are shaking and I wobble through the hall that’s covered in moss, the smell of death lingering in the air. I worry, not knowing what would follow. Shall I survive, or shall I fail, for as it seems that death is trailing behind me? I begin to panic, my legs beginning to kick in and start moving faster. Looking back, I see a dark void, enclosing everything behind me. It’s ivory eyes stare into me, trying to reach me. I am now running, trying to get away from everything. I feel a scream build up in my throat. I can hear it murmuring in my ear and enclosing me: “Why don’t you just give up already? Don’t you realize that I am to not cause harm to you, but only be your blockade. I will save you from a future of horror and death. You will feel nothing.” Thrashing around, I try to escape, wanting to be free. I felt as if I was trapped in shallow water and unable to breathe. I could barely hear anything over the voices of the darkness and my own. I feel myself slipping, everything soon going black. The only thing being heard is a voice. It gets louder and louder, bellowing in me. “Miss! Wake up already!” I frantically surge up, sweat all over my skin. I take shallow breaths, lights blinding my eyes. I squint and try to look around. I’m in a completely white room. I’m laying on the bed and there is a desk next to me, with some papers that read words like “unbalanced” and “brain sick” written on them. “Miss, are you alright now”, someone asks with an eerie voice. I whirl toward the voice hastily. A lady in a white suit stands next to me with white surgical gloves on. She has a grin that fills me with dread. She begins to speak, her grin widening. “Shall we begin?”
