It Started with a Knock

11/1/2017

Alone in the house, I look out the window and see nothing but the branches swaying back and forth in the wind. Every once and awhile I would hear one of the branches scrape the window pane, I don’t think much of it though. I spent most of my friday night watching the news, trying to unwind after a particularly stressful week. My mind began to wander as I doze off. Just then I hear a sharp knock on the window, It startled me so, that I nearly jumped out of the chair that I was sitting in. As I get up from the chair I notice that the tv had been turned off. I thought to myself how could the tv turn off if the remote was on the coffee table several feet away, but I immediately switched my focus to the loud knock on the window. I walk through the hallway to the kitchen, where I thought the sound came from. As I pull back the drapes, I swear I see something move quickly across the dimly lit street. I scan the street to see if I find the figure that I thought I saw, but am unable to locate it. At this point I am feeling a little uneasy, and I try to take my mind off of it. I decide to take a shower, as I walk out of the bathroom the moonlight floods the room and spills into the hallway. Upon entering my room I feel a presence, it feels heavy and dark. The feeling is so powerful that I begin to feel dizzy, and I can’t think straight. After some difficulty I make it to my bed to find an impression of a body under my covers. I gasped and sprinted from the bedroom to my phone on the coffee table. I call the police and I can't hear anything but static, and suddenly my phones dies. By this point my heart is racing a million miles a minute and panic sets in. I grab my keys and run to my car in the garage. As the garage door creaks open, I look into the rear view mirror to see a dark figure standing in the street motionless. My adrenaline is pumping, I throw open the door and am ready to confront the figure, only to find that it has disappeared. I quickly get back into my car and speed down the street, I don’t know where I am going but I know that I am not welcome here. As I am cruising down Archer Ave. something dark jumps in front of my car and I swerve to avoid it, I hear my wheels screech as I try to pull the car back on the road, but I am unable to and hit a tree. My head slumped over the wheel, I pull my head up to see a light coming towards me, I give up and wait for my fate.
